Our MTD fees
- MTD registration — £95 + VAT (one-off): we register you for MTD and set up each income source as a separate business.
- Quarterly update filing — £75 + VAT per update: we prepare and submit each quarterly update to HMRC. There are four a year.
What else you might pay for
Making Tax Digital requires HMRC-recognised compatible software, which usually carries its own subscription (there are some free and low-cost options). If you also want us to handle your year-end tax return or ongoing bookkeeping, we can quote for that separately. HMRC itself does not charge a fee to register for or file MTD.
What's included in our filing service
- Registering you for MTD correctly, income source by income source
- Reviewing your figures with you before each submission
- Filing the quarterly update to HMRC by the deadline
- A confirmation and summary after every submission
What a full year typically looks like
It helps to see the whole year rather than a single fee. For someone with one income source who wants us to handle everything, a typical first year is:
- MTD registration — £95 + VAT, one-off
- Four quarterly updates — £75 + VAT each
- Compatible software — its own subscription (free options exist for simple cases)
After the first year there is no registration fee to pay again. If you have more than one income source — say a trade and a rental — each is set up and reported separately, so we quote based on your situation.
Doing it yourself vs using us
You can file MTD yourself — HMRC charges nothing to register or submit. The real cost of DIY is your time each quarter, plus the risk of a mistake or a missed deadline (a late quarterly update can eventually mean a £200 penalty, and late tax carries interest). Using us swaps that time and risk for a fixed, predictable fee, with your figures checked before anything is filed. For many directors and landlords, the few hours saved each quarter more than covers it.
