Don't panic — there's still time

The first Making Tax Digital quarterly deadline, 7 August 2026, has passed. The next is 7 November 2026 (for the standard update period 6 April to 5 October, or 1 April to 30 September if you chose calendar update periods). If you missed the first one or are not ready for the next, you still have options. The quickest route is to let us register you for MTD and file your quarterly update for you, so you don’t have to learn software or navigate HMRC under time pressure.

The one thing to do right now

Before we can act for you, set up your own HMRC personal tax account and Self Assessment registration — only you can do this. Start it here:

gov.uk/personal-tax-account →

Then we handle the rest, fast

  • We register you for MTD, setting up each income source — £95 + VAT
  • We prepare and file your quarterly update — £75 + VAT
  • We confirm your deadlines so you don’t miss the next one

What a fast turnaround looks like

Even close to the deadline, the path is short once your personal tax account is live:

  • Same day — you set up your HMRC personal tax account; we get you authorised.
  • Next 1–2 days — we register you for MTD and connect compatible software.
  • Before 7 November — we pull your quarter’s figures together, review them with you and file.

The one thing that can add time is HMRC identity checks or getting a UTR if you are brand new — which is exactly why the “do it right now” step above matters.

If you genuinely can't make it in time

Take some reassurance: HMRC’s guidance says there are no penalties for missing a quarterly update deadline in the 2026 to 2027 tax year. From the following tax year a points system applies (a £200 penalty at 4 points). The easement does not cover late payment of tax, and it is not a reason to relax — but it does mean a late first update in the opening year is not a disaster. The best move is still to get set up and file as soon as possible, and we can make that happen quickly.
